New Water Restrictions Take Effect January 15, 2008

The new, mandatory restrictions apply to homes and businesses that use City water or water from other sources including private wells, canals, ponds and lakes. Users of 100-percent reclaimed water are exempt from the restrictions but are encouraged to conserve water voluntarily.

Effective January 15, 2008:

Lawn Watering Restrictions

Addresses that end in an odd number (1, 3, 5, 7, 9) may water lawns and landscapes on Mondays from 4 - 8 a.m. OR from 4 - 8 p.m. NOT during both time periods.

Addresses ending in an even number (0, 2, 4, 6, 8) may water lawns and landscapes on Thursdays from 4 - 8 a.m. OR from 4 - 8 p.m. NOT during both time periods.

Hand watering of "stressed" areas using a hose with an automatic shut-off nozzle is permitted for 10 minutes per day on any day.

New landscaping, planted for 30 days or less, may be watered from 2 - 8 a.m. on any day except Fridays.

Landscaping in place for 31 to 60 days may be watered from 2 - 8 a.m. on any day except Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Other Outdoor Water Uses

Vehicle washing, boat washing, pressure cleaning, or water used for decorative fountains, pools or other water-based recreation are not restricted however, voluntary conservation is encouraged.

When washing a car or vehicle, park it over a non-paved surface to limit runoff and use a hose with an automatic shut-off nozzle.

Limit boat rinsing to 15 minutes after it has been in salt water.

Use pressure washing equipment with a flow rate of 1,000 to 4,000 pounds per square inch (psi).

Decorative fountains may run anytime if they re-circulate water and don’t spray water out of the fountain basin.

Indoor water use is not restricted, but voluntary conservation is encouraged.
